On April 28 2012, in Montichiari Italy, at 16: 15, in broad daylight, amidst a crowd of over 1,000 protestors, animal activists broke into the compound of Green Hill laboratory animal breeders and liberated 27 beagles. It was a bold, brazen, defiant, and iconic act of defiance, resistance, and liberation. Soon after, the Green Hill compound was closed and hundreds of beagles were adopted to loving homes.
I wrote various reports and updates on the Green Hill action (see here, here, here, and here). In September 2012, during a speaking tour of Italy (see here, here, and here), I had the honor of speaking throughout Italy, of meeting with key Green Hill activists, of speaking to Green Hill campaigners and Italian animal rights activists, and meeting some of the Green Hill dogs.
Animal rights activist and director of a forthcoming documentary on the Green Hill liberation, Piercarlo Paderno, was kind enough to interview me for this film, an interview which is featured in this short clip from “Green Hill – A Story of Freedom.”
The narrative is in Italian, my own words are translated and subtitled, and the images of the bold raid on Green Hill tell the story in a universal language.

Inspiring. We here in America should realize that vivisection breeders are transnational and, like Green Hill, are sometimes owned by American money — in this instance Marshall Farms and/or its other Marshall corporate divisions. Marshall Farms biggest facility is in North Rose, New York on a dead end highway in a rural area. Places such as Marshall Farms would not exist if there were not money to be made as a result of vivisection and animal testing protocols for the FDA and NIH and other such misguided institutions counseled by bioethicists
Watched in tears, very important iconic event for AR! Love the Italians 🙂
The pictures show very clearly, what is right and what is wrong… will say …what was wrong before. Unbelievable that there are human beings who will call this a criminal act …
Time and again it’s the activists in Israel, Spain, Italy, and the U.K. who seem to be leading the way as to what a purposeful movement ought to look like. They’re organized, motivated and successful. They are inspirational.
Meanwhile we in the U.S. can’t even fight legislation that prohibits taking a photo of caged hen.
I’m thrilled as could be for these now freed beings. Their liberators deserve our praise and respect. Thank you for being part of the Green Hill story.
