While Chris Lagergren is in the bullseye of the state repression apparatus, he is committed to animal activism and, at the same time, he is a quiet and stoic individual and, so, many do not understand what he is facing. Everyone is aware that vivisectors are seeking to silence Camille. At the moment, she faces a maximum of 9 1/2 months in jail. In contrast, prosecutors are attempting to eliminate Chris, an effective whistleblower who, at this moment, faces a potential eight years in prison. One might be inclined to conclude that Florida activists are becoming far too aggressive and present an increasing threat to animal exploiters…and perhaps this is why they are trying to make an example out of Chris.
PLEASE SUPPORT CHRIS
His legal fees are mounting and if he wins, we all win!
TRIAL UPDATE: As most of you are aware, at the pre-trial hearing on April 10, 2012, the presiding judge granted him a continuance due to the fact that two of the State’s key witnesses (former MMC Director Robt. Lingenfelser; Miami Police Sgt. Javier Ortiz), were proving difficult to serve subpoenas upon. During that proceeding, the State’s attorney proclaimed several times that they are “ready for trial”. No plea bargain was offered. While his next court hearing is on June 4, 2012; the trial date is now scheduled for June 18, 2012.
The Support Chris Lagergren group has retained additional legal counsel on the defense team to assist with the case. This co-counsel (TBA) has extensive experience with AETA law, and is nationally recognized for their work in representing animal and environmental activists. They therefore need to raise further funds to cover the basic costs of travel, accommodation and related disbursements (all professional services are being provided on a pro-bono basis). They also require the services of a researcher for the case. The estimated total expenses for this will be approximately $8,000-9,000, of which Chris currently has half. We are therefore asking for your assistance once again to help his Support Team raise approximately $5,000. We sincerely appreciate all of your continued support – including your moral support!! I laud Chris for what he has accomplished.
Having watched an (over) hour long video posted on ‘Save Misty the Dolphin’ FB page, some months ago, I can appreciate Chris’ work with an even greater understanding. This video deals with the horrific worldwide – literally – mafia trade in cetaceans; it was possibly more comprehensive than the film “The Cove”. Names were given, trade routes, pseudo companies, and their subsidiaries – many linked to SeaWorld and its various operations, and the criminals operating, and behind SeaWorld were named; some interviewed. The extreme, unrelenting horror of this entire industry was shown. Many of the well known individuals working to counteract this industry, were interviewed. And many of the enslaved cetaceans were given names, and faces. It was heartbreaking.
I’m heartened to hear that Chris has exceptionally experienced legal representation. But disheartened, as usual, that he should be facing these insubordinate and unjustifiable charges against him.
– In solidarity with Chris.
Did a search but couldn’t find the answer. If I donate using paypal-does paypal take a cut? If so how much? I hate paypal and if they take money from donations then I’ll hate them even more.
No, it is to very easy to open and useful to have a paypal account, they do not take anything off the top; you just need a checking account you can access online and the email address of the person you are sending money to, Chris in this case; you type in the amount you wish to send, it will transfer it from your checking or bank account to his pay pal account, it will remain there for 3 days while it is validated, and then he can transfer it directly to his bank account and draw on funds as necessary; i highly recommend it, and it is not hard to do; if you have any questions about the details of the process, ask his support team, but it is easy to set up and user-friendly. i am not sure if there are problems transferring from one country to another, i do not think so, but pay pal or the support team can answer that for sure for you.
I am also in solidarity with Chris!
Chris is a wonderful and unassuming person who I am proud to call Comrade. I’m sure that everyone who reads Dr. Best’s article will want to donate and share information regarding Chris and this unfair ‘sentence’ hanging over him.
We are all targets of the corrupt establishment – could be any one of us next!
SOLIDARITY!
Why is it that good people are punished for telling the truth, and corruptness is praised. I support Chris 100%.
